Claremont Special

Hello S1 class!

Welcome back to the start of a school year and the start of a new term, we really do hope you have had the best summer holiday.

We are so excited to be back and look forward to hopefully a more inclusive and fun year where the children can socially mix when it is safe to do so.

First of all, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Sergio and I am going to be the teacher of S1 this year. I’ve already had the chance to meet most of the students and I am very excited and looking forward to having lots of fun and learning.

We are starting with a mini- theme “Our Community” for the first 2 weeks to welcome everyone back to school after the summer holidays, to get to know each other better and to support the awareness of the different spaces and classes in the Redland site.

We are continuing to move forward with our new curriculum and our theme for the rest of term 1 and 2 will be film and media. The children will be learning about different media, music, and some of the most influential films. They will be participating in drama sessions, making art replicas of props, and listening to some of the best music scores ever written. We will also be creating our own short film about ourselves and the school.

We will hope to have the chance to learn outside the school (covid guidance allowing). We hope to make links with the BBC in Bristol and to start engaging with walks around the school and in the community.

We are also soon going to have the opportunity to go sailing this term thanks to the hard work of the pupils with the “All Move” Project last year. The Mencap charity were so impressed by our children’s effort and commitment they have provided us with some funding to take some of the pupils to take a boat ride on the dock. More details to follow on this very soon.

Finally, we will start doing school assemblies, inclusive clubs and celebrate Harvest, Diwali and Hannukah either online or in person. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to share the pupils' work with you later in the term.

We are staying in bubbles for the first 2 weeks after which it will be reviewed. The times for the bubbles for the secondary classes are as follows.

Please see the letter on the front page of the website for further information.
