Supporting Families

How We Support Families at Claremont.

At Claremont we are aware that in order for children and young people to achieve to their own potential we need families to be on board, reinforcing the skills learned at school, especially in communication and self help skills.  We also want to work with families around what we focus on in school.  We also appreciate that sometimes it is difficult to be a parent or carer and we all need support and advice at times.

At Claremont we have a  Family Link Worker (FLW) who can provide a range of services to help.

FLW provides workshops for parent/carers around sensitive areas such as what it is like growing up with a disability and how parent/carers can support this.  They cover areas such as changing bodies, understanding behaviour and practical skills around personal care.

She can help with practical things like form filling, linking with other professionals and accessing appropriate services.

Along with our Transition Support Worker, the FLW offers regular information mornings, some with outside speakers or school staff, or just other parents/carers.

The FLW also provides drop-in sessions where parents/carers are able to call in for a chat or support around a particular thing.

The FLW has flexible hours so is available after school and sometimes during holidays.
